The innovative green energy provider aWATTar was founded in 2014 by Simon Schmitz and Peter Votzi, who already received the "greenstar" startup award from the Climate and Energy Fund. AWATTar is the first provider offering an hourly variable tariff: the windier and sunny it is outdoors, the cheaper it gets. The aim of the aWATTar "Grünstrommwegung" is to bring the electricity consumption into harmony with nature by using the latest online technologies and thus to reduce the costs for customers and for the power turnaround massively.
Simon Schmitz is responsible for aWATTar's strategy, energy management and finances. BioEvoTec makes a million-year-old symbiosis between plant and underground fungi useful for everyone. The fungi produced in the bioprocess increase the root mass of the plant and intensify the growth and the resistance of the plants in the garden and in the agriculture in a natural way. This ancient unit of plant and mushroom helps naturally to maximum yield in the garden as in the field.
Wieland Reichelt has developed bioprocesses with his background in process engineering since the beginning of his doctoral studies at the Vienna University of Technology. His enthusiasm for natural and simple solutions to everyday problems brought him the idea of making this ancient symbiosis usable in the gardens of Austria.
"Bionic surface technologies" is concerned with the research, production and distribution of micro- and nanostructured surfaces, which can improve flow-optimized bodies such as aircraft, wind power plants, high-speed trains, etc. By applying these flow-tuned surfaces (so-called "riblets"), the friction resistance of a body in fluids can be reduced by up to 8% in a very wide range of applications. This results in up to 8% more efficiency, depending on the ratio between pressure and friction resistance. This is a good way to improve these properties, especially in industrial flow optimized applications.
Eologix develops wireless sensors for detecting ice formation on rotor blades of wind power plants (WKA, "wind turbines" for generating electrical energy). The ice formation at WKA causes downtimes (depending on the location between 120 and 720 h / year) and thus yields the generation of renewable energy. In contrast to all other systems currently in use, the patented, direct measurement on the rotor blade can be used to achieve a reduction in the standstill times (and thus a reduction in the yield) of up to 50%. The number of wind turbines in icing-affected regions is around 40,000 worldwide, with about 5,000 wind turbines being built each year in such areas. For optimal operation of wind turbines, it is therefore imperative to precisely recognize the ice formation on the rotor blade.
This is made possible by means of sensor technologies, in which the founders worked for years in the framework of their university research before the start of the company. As an essential feature, all necessary components (sensor elements for ice formation or ice thickness measurement, power supply, funkmodule) are completely encapsulated in a thin (less than 2 mm), flexible unit. As a result, mounting on the rotor blade is extremely simple (can be glued as a sticker). Thanks to the integrated power supply (solar cells and energy storage), maintenance-free operation is possible for years. Wiring, drilling etc. are not required.
WInterface is a research and development company active in the field of thermal rehabilitation and is launching a patented modular façade insulation system and a production plant for this purpose. Automated production of the high-tech insulation elements and their fastening system will convert the entire process of building insulation to digital processes. The industrial prefabrication of dimensionally modular modular insulation elements in combination with the optimized fastening system simplifies the facade insulation against conventional systems enormously - the assembly time is shortened from a few months to a few days.
